D’Tigers crash out of Afrobasket championhip

It was a disappointing night for Nigerian Basketball,as D’Tigers narrowly got eliminated from the 2013 Afrobasket championship.
Former champions,Senegal triumphed in their game with Nigeria by a single point,in the last quarter-finals match for the day by 64-63 points.
Prior to the game,Nigeria have had a clean sweep,winning all their four games before the tie against Senegal.
Though they were not rolled over,there was a visible sign of tiredness owing to the squad been overstretched,with so many players missing key games to injuries and suspension.
D’Tigers led from the first quarter by 25 – 16 points but lost steam along the line and relinquished the lead to Senegal.
Senegal narrowed the gap in the second quarter and closed it down to 37-35 points just into half time.
And from the third quarter,the five-time champions took the lead till the end of the game.
D’Tigers will miss the opportunity to play at next year’s World Championship in Spain,as only the top three teams from the Afrobasket championship qualifies.
In the match of the tournament,Ivory Coast will square up against African powerhouses,Angola with Senegal and Egypt completing the other semifinal pairing.
