Dangote Group has denied widespread rumors that it is colluding with the federal government to produce and distribute poisonous Genetically Modified Organisms, GMO's rice, all over the country.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Dangote said it's not "involved in the production or sales of GMOs and its research in Nigeria or anywhere," and termed the reports malicious and false.

The statement signed by its Social Media Manager, Adedamola Adeniyi, said Dangote instead had made some groundbreaking progress since it forayed into the rice market in 2014 when it signed a $1gb agreement with FG on integrated rice production in Kebbi, Niger, Jigawa and Kwara.

"FARO 44 rice seeds distributed to farmers during the Outgrower Scheme was sourced from Africa Rice and certified by the National Agricultural Seeds Council," it said, and wondered how Dangote could flood the market with poisonous rice under the watchful eyes of NAFDAC, SON and the CPC.
