The Senate President, Sen. David Mark, has condemned the Nyanya, Abuja, park Monday morning bombing that killed 71 and injured many more.
In a reaction after visiting the scene of the bomb explosion, Mark admonished the perpetrators to have a rethink because they were fighting a needless war, a statement said.

The statement, signed by Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Senate President, quoted Mark as saying: ``It is hard to believe that this is happening to us. No matter the anger or grievances in anybody’s mind.

``This war on defenceless citizens is uncalled for. This is inhuman and unarguably ungodly.’’

The statement said Mark had to call off his planned trip to attend the 100th birthday celebrations of the Olubadan, Oba Samuel Odugade I, in Ibadan, in honour of the victims.

He said the president sympathised with the victims and reminded Nigerians of the need to be their brother’s keeper at all times.

The statement said that Mark also called on the security operatives to collaborate with others and advised them to be more proactive in order to end the menace.

It said the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Publicity, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, expressed the Senate’s deep feelings over the ``mindless killings of innocent lives by evil minded persons.’’

Abaribe said: `The senate bleeds also on the very harrowing fact that innocent lives of Nigerians whose only sin is to go out to look for their daily bread will be so killed in this manner.

``Senate is still bemoaning the unending massacre of our people in the North East. The latest being killings in Borno State on Sunday and now this one.

``The security agencies must step up their game and be more proactive.

``The country is indeed bleeding of the blood of her innocent ones who are daily being cut down by the evil minds.’’

Abaribe consoled the families of the dead and wished the wounded quick recovery.
