Politics Democracy Day: 138 Families Receive Tambuwal's Cash Donation

No fewer than 138 families in Sokoto yesterday got N500, 000 each from Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as part of the activities to mark his one year in office and Democracy Day celebration, LEADERSHIP reports.

The benefitting families are those who lost their loved ones in last year’s Saudi Arabia Hajj stampede.

Speaking before the donation, the state deputy governor and the 2015 Amiru Hajj from the state consoled those whose breadwinner, relatives and friends were involved in the incident.

According to him, the gesture was nothing compared to the lives lost.

He however assured bereaved families to take solace in the Almighty Allah, knowing fully well that, they died while performing one of the requirements of their religion.

The deputy governor averred that no fewer than 300 pilgrims were involved in the 2015 Hajj stampede, with about 138 from Sokoto State alone. He added that, another 22 pilgrims are yet to be confirmed dead or alive hence there has been no official statement regarding their whereabouts.

Speaking before giving the money to each benefitting family, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal assured the citizenry of his determination to bring further dividends of democracy to the state.
