Nigerian senator Dino Melaye on Thursday announced on Social Media that an Abuja High Court has halted the process to recall him from the senate by his Kogi West Constituents.

The senator announced his supposed victory on Twitter and posted a photo on Instagram saying "file bee", "no to recall."

However, it seems things don't look so.

According to reports, the court ordered that "status quo" be maintained, which when interpreted in a way, means INEC should continue with the process.

Dino Melaye believes the opposite.

INEC is yet to react officially to the court judgement but its Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, doesn't think the process will be halted.

According to him, mere applications without court decisions were inadequate to prevent the recall process.

“Only a legitimate court order or an injunction can be considered by the commission,’’ Mr. Oyekanmi had said.

The process had been slated to begin on July 10. The court says it will entertain arguments on the subject on September 29.

What is the meaning of "status quo"?

Will Dino's act not amount to sub juice + contempt of court+ acting in preemptive manner to the ultimate judicial verdict - a supposed lawmaker?
