A Didier Drogba inspired Galatasaray side,on Sunday defeated Arsenal to lift the Emirates Cup competition.
The former Chelsea attacker,netted a brace as his Turkish side triumphed 2-1 over the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.
Theo Walcott opened the scores for Arsenal,but a second half substitute appearance by Drogba,came back to haunt Arsene Wenger’s team.
Arsenal had opportunities to finish off the game in the first half,but fluffed their chances,with new recruit Yaya Sanogo the biggest culprit.
Olivier Giroud could have extended Arsenal’s lead in the second half,twice forcing Fernando Muslera to excellent saves.
Then came the controversial moment,when Drogba appeared to have gone to ground too easily to win a penalty in the 78th minute,after a slight touch by Ignasi Miguel.
Drogba equalised through the spot to tie the scores at 1-1 and with just three minutes to the end of the encounter,did what he has always done against Arsenal,scoring the winner in the 87th minute to make it 2-1.
The victory won Galatasaray the Emirates Cup,and Arsenal will once again miss winning the competition,having won three of the last six.
