Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state on Friday said that he would contest the Ebonyi Central Senatorial seat in the forthcoming general elections slated to hold in February 2015.

Elechi disclosed this at the 34th State Executive Council meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abakaliki.

During the meeting, the leadershiprship and members of Ebonyi Youth Assembly bought and issued him the senatorial nomination form.

The governor said he had to accept the proposal after due consultation and pleas from major stakeholders of his senatorial zone.

He expressed displeasure with the way and manner legislatures were changed each election year and urged the State Chairman of the party, Chief Ugorji Amaoti, to obtain the nomination form and contest the Afikpo South/Afikpo North Federal Constituency.

"I want to plead with the state leadership of our great party to allow legislators at all levels to return as constant change of legislators affect the legislative arms of government and makes it cumbersome.''

Addressing newsmen shortly after issuing the form to the governor, the National President of the assembly, Mr Chinedu Ogah, said that the organisation picked the form to enable the governor to proceed to the upper chamber.

"The organisation has also gotten offices in all the wards and four local government areas in the zone to facilitate the governors campaign.

"We have in addition to that, procured 80 motorcycles and four Sienna buses for the campaign to enable the governor to continue his infrastructure and human developmental strides in the state from the senate," he said.

According to Ogah, the members of the assembly have observed the developmental strides of the governor in the last 7 years.

"In our desire to ensure he continues his achievements in the state, we decided to purchase the senatorial form of the Peoples Democratic Party to enable him to contest the election. We don't expect him to spend his money campaigning for the position; we will do all the campaign for him.

"We will move from house to house to solicit for support and we are confident that he will emerge victorious during the polls. We will also ensure that all those competing with him step down for him. He will emerge a consensus candidate even among the opposition party," he said.
