Hosni Mubarak, ousted Egyptian president has been released from prison. He is to be held under house arrest at a military hospital in Cairo due to his failing health.

Wednesday, the court ordered Mubarak's release because he has been held past the maximum time he can be detained before being convicted.

A small crowd of supporters gathered outside the prison and cheered as the helicopter took off.

The April 6 youth movement has called protests on Friday against his release.

Mubarak will still face retrial on charges of killing protesters during the 2011 revolution, and three other corruption cases as well.
