President Goodluck Jonathan has promised neutrality in the choice of PDP candidate for the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti says the Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade in Abuja on Sunday.

He said the president made his position known at a closed door meeting he held with all the party aspirants for the elections at the Presidential Villa at the weekend.

“What the president said is that he has not endorsed anybody. That means every aspirant can be the governorship candidate and that is good for democracy.

“I think what we need to do is to take it in good faith and learn the lessons that he has offered and use it not to make mistakes of the past so that the election will be free and fair under a peaceful atmosphere.

“This is what is important for all of us. Definitely, a governor will emerge,’’ he said.

“All the aspirants embraced it and they were happy. That is good leadership and I think we should commend Mr President for that,’’ he said.

The minister said he was optimistic that the police would do its job professionally in protecting lives, property and general security in the forthcoming elections.

On police funding, the minister said the police have been adequately funded by the administration.

According to him, Mr President has funded the police more than what we have always had in the past and we will start to see the effect.
