The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday appealed to all the stakeholders in Ekiti State to eschew violence in the lead-up to the 2014 governorship election.

Alhaji Halilu Pai, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ekiti State, made the appeal at a public sensitisation forum in Ise-Ekiti, Ise-Orun Local Government Area of the state.

He said that INEC organised the sensitisation activity to educate the stakeholders on the electoral process before, during and after the election.

Pai said that INEC had printed pamphlets to guide the electorate on voting procedures as well as the symbols of the various parties to enable them to know how to vote appropriately.

He also said that INEC was planning to set up a committee, which would comprise traditional rulers, religious leaders and police, to handle disputes arising from every election.

The REC said that the committee would be known as “Alternative Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee”.

Pai assured the representatives of two traditional rulers, the Arinjale of Ise-Ekiti and Olorun of Orun-Ekiti, and some agencies who attended the event that the coming polls would be free and fair.
