Emergency Travel Certificates (ETC) has been issued by the government of Saudi Arabia to 45 Nigerians illegally residing in the country.
Ambassador Ahmed Umar, Nigeria’s Consul General in Jeddah, said during a telephone interview that 526 Nigerians have been arrested since the 3 months amnesty granted to undocumented immigrants ended. The amnesty was given in order that illegal immigrants regularised their stay in the country.
He said, “It is better to go home in honour than to be caught and made to face severe consequences.”
