Enterprise Bank Ltd. has sacked 150 staff, more staff are expected to go. Sources claim that the sack cut across all units of the bank.

The affected workers are said to be part of the 250 staff nationwide penciled down for rationalization.

Some Enterprise Bank Staff at the Lagos Island branches confirmed the sack saying that fear and apprehension had enveloped workers in most of the branches. The bulk of the staff are living in fear as nobody knows who is next.

The Association of Senor Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has confirmed the mass sack. Mr Emma Ilodianya, one of ASSBIFI secretaries, said that fractionalization of the union was affecting the urgent resolution of the crisis in Enterprises Bank.

“The bank’s workers belong to a faction of the ASSBIFI that is affiliated to Trade Union Congress, while our own faction belongs to the Nigerian Labour Congress.

“I can only confirm to you that 250 workers were sack by the bank, but we are not handling the issue from this end,” Ilodianya said.

A retrenched staff who spoke anonymously said that the management was sacrificing junior workers because of their refusal to reduce their salaries.

The management of Enterprise Bank Ltd. is yet to give a reason for the retrenchment or even comment on it.
