Enyimba wins Federations Cup

In the finals of the 2013 Nigerian Federations Cup finals,Enyimba defeated Warri Wolves 5-4 on penalties to win the 2013 Federations Cup.
The game went straight to penalties after both sides battled to a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Enyimba who had won the competition on two previous occasions, made their mark felt, spreading the ball nicely and its first opportunity came through Sibi Gwar, whose shot was parried out by Wolves’ keeper,Okemute Odah.
Wolves equally asked their own questions,a slip by Nathaniel Ojobo allowed Musa Najere in,but Enyimba keeper,Femi Thomas quickly came off his lines to force a save.
Gwar was at the other end for Enyimba, getting in between two defenders but his resulting volley was way over the bar.
Wolves however got the breakthrough in the 23rd minute after Super Eagles defender,Azubuike Egwueke knocked down the ball from a corner kick and Najere tapped it in to give the Warri side a 1-0 lead.
The People’s Elephant probed for an equaliser and twice forced Odah to action before the end of the first half.
Substitute Chimenzie Amanfor led Enyimba’s onslaught in the second half, immediately forcing a corner kick.
But Enyimba was patient pushing for an equaliser and they were rewarded after a poor clearance by Wolves fell to full back,Bright Esieme who brought the ball down and immediately volleyed it in to equalise for 1-1.
The People’s Elephant had the momentum with the equaliser and still pressed for further goals, but Wolves regained the lead after Thomas spilled a shot and Joseph Osadiaye was on hand to tap in for 2-1.
But Enyimba did not despair and immediately equalised through Ugwu Uwadiegwu in the 82nd minute, curling a free-kick past Wolves’ defence to level 2-2.
But both sides held on and saw out the game at 2-2.
The game went straight to penalties and Enyimba scored all five of theirs, with Wolves missing one of their kicks through skipper,Egwueke and Enyimba won the game 5-4.
It is the third time that Enyimba will be winning the Federations Cup,but Wolves will have to wait for another day to win the presitigious trophy.
