Mr Karorudeen Okikiola, the The President-General of Agbekoya Farmers Association has appealed the government to provide a grant of N350 million, for the development and nurturing of cooperative society to boost food production. Though Okikiola urged the government to even make this grant a loan, the demand is perceived to be a heavy call from the president.

Okikiola made this demand here on Thursday at the inauguration of the association in Gidan Makasa. He said that the needs of the association are ballooning at a hefty rate and there is a need to grow and cultivate cassava, rice, sorghum and maize for not only meeting the local needs but also to export them for earning massive profits for the country.

He said that the plan is to start the work in phases and for this reason, land of around 10, 000 is bought across the state in partnership with one commercial bank. "In the first phase, 5,000 hectares of land will be used to cultivate and grow the necessities like cassava, sorghum, maize and yam, and to also keep 1.2 million birds (chicken) alongside 29 million tonnes of fish", said Okikiolo who seemed much spirited about the positive response from the government.
