Politics Fashola Presents Chief Scientific Adviser to State Executive Council

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has presented Dr Adekemi Sekoni as Chief Scientific Adviser to the state executive council.

Presenting the Chief scientific Officer to cabinet members, Fashola said the appointment was to strengthen the state's health and environment sectors in view of prevailing global realities.

Fashola had announced the appointment of Sekoni at a programme to commemorate 2700 days of his administration on Oct 19.

Some of the cabinet members at the brief presentation ceremony in Ikeja include the Deputy Governor,Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ade Ipayeand Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Ademorin Kuye.

Others are the Head of Service, Mrs Josephine Williams and the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Wale Ahmed.

The governor said the responsibilities of the new adviser would include providing public information about infectious diseases for effective response.

Fashola said that Sekoni would help to coordinate science-based research on food sufficiency and air pollution.

According to him, the adviser will also help in other areas that are likely to improve the general wellbeing of Lagos residents

Fashola congratulated the new appointee and expressed the hope that she would discharge her responsibilities efficiently for the advancement of the state.

In her response, Sekoni, thanked the state government for the confidence reposed in her with the appointment and promised to do her best in the service of the state.

Sekoni, until the new appointment, was a senior lecturer in Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the Department of Community Health and Primary Health-Care at the University of Lagos.
