Administrator
he FCT Administration has removed more than 2,000 shanties and illegal structures in the FCT in the last two weeks, according to a statement.

The statement, issued by Mr Muhammad Sule, the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister on Tuesday in Abuja noted that the removal was achieved following the recent riot act read by the FCT minister.

It quoted Sule as saying that the FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Muhammad, recently read the riot act to Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDA's).

Sule stated that all illegal mechanic colonies on Murtala Muhammed Expressway to the Dantata and Sawoe Junction down to Gudu District, all in Abuja, had been removed.

Also removed, he said, were ``the undesirable trees within that axis.’’

The scribe noted that several broken down vehicles along the roads in Abuja metropolis, as well as illegal block moulding industries scattered within the city were also removed.

He added that artisans operating in undesignated areas had also been dislodged, while illegal ice making industries were also affected.

The clean up, though statutory for the FCT Administration, will continue until the capital city is rid of illegal structures and activities.

"The Abuja master plan must be religiously adhered to in consonant with the dreams of the founding fathers; parks must be used for what they are designated for."

The statement also quoted the FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr John Chukwu, as advising FCT residents not to patronise street traders and commercial sex workers, among others.

Chukwu threatened that anybody found wanting would be prosecuted in accordance with the law of the land as he said ``it has not been business as usual, since the FCT minister read the riot act to SDAs
