Federal Government in Lagos on Tuesday launched Onitsha Mega Drug Distribution Centre as part of moves to reduce fake drugs and prevent open drug market.
Health Minister, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu represented by the Director, National Drug Policy Programme, Ministry of Health, Mrs Joyce Ugwu at the inauguration, said that although the centre did not conform with National Guidelines for Drug Distribution (NGDD),it still lays the foundation for drugs that conform with National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control Standard.
Also, NAFDAC and Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria(PCN) have been given legal access to conduct their routine checks at the Onitsha Bridge open drug market in order to regulate drugs effectively.
NAFDAC Director-General, Dr Paul Orhii said that the centre will also provide information on drug utilisation and enhance compliance with medicine laws and regulation.
