Defending Champions,Heartland FC,has been knocked out of the 2013 Federations Cup,losing out to Akwa United in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The game which was played at the Kaduna centre, saw Heartland playing out a 1-1 draw in regulation time, but crashed out after losing 5-4 via penalty shoot-outs.
In another shock elimination in the competition, defending champions of the Nigeria Premier League,Kano Pillars suffered a humiliating defeat to Warri Wolves.
Wolves clearly strolled over Pillars, dispatching the Kano -based clubside 3-0 at the Ilorin centre, where the game was held.
But former champions of the Federations Cup,Enyimba, were not to be shocked,as they defeated Nasarawa United 1-0 .
Once again the stand-out performer was “wonder-boy” Sokari Kingsley, who scored the solitary goal for Enyimba in the 55th minute,to help qualify the People’s Elephant for the semi-final of the Federations Cup.
The Enyimba player has now racked up four goals in the competition,as he continues in his quest to claim the highest goalscorer prize.
Meanwhile in the Enugu centre, the only non-league side left in the competition,Akwa Starlets, couldn’t progress any further, losing 2-1 to last year’s finalists,Lobi Stars.
Semi- final pairings:
Warri Wolves vs Akwa United
Enyimba vs Lobi Stars
