FG Didn't Sack Striking Doctors - Health Minister

The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu has said that, contrary to media reports, the Federal Government hasn't sacked the striking doctors.

Professor Onyebuchi told State House correspondents that what the government did was the suspension of the residency programme in federal hospitals.

It would be recalled that the Ministry of Health in a press release by its Deputy Director of Press, Alhaji Isiaka Yusuf, said last week that it had to do so after exploring all avenues to end the Nigerian Medical Association’s strike, which it said had compounded the health crisis in the country.

I don't know who is at fault or rather who is misguided. You say something and the following day you say the opposite. Maybe you don't know but you've destroyed a lot of lives by getting a story or getting media attention. This isn't the first, so please keep your stories accurate before publishing it and making it public knowledge

@ismail ibrahim it is the duty of reporters to report what has been said, and as it stood at the time, that was what was said. The fact that contrary reports arise subsequently doesn't obliterate the initial reports. It simply means there has been backpedaling on what was hitherto said.

There were statement and counter-statements even from the NMA (check here and here).

With that said, our job is to serve you up the best information from all the best (read 'credible') sources, and that's what we have done. We are not trying to get a story or get media attention, but to provide a useful service :)
