The Federal Government on Wednesday distributed 10,500 bags of assorted fertiliser to 3,500 irrigation farmers in Kware local government area of Sokoto State.
Dr Jubril Enesi, the state Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, who was represented by Mr Abubakar Mohammed, said that the gesture was extended to the beneficiaries under the Growth Enhancement Support scheme of the Federal Government.
The beneficiaries were given two bags of NPK fertiliser, one bag of Urea, a 25kg bag of rice seeds and two 2-litre cans of agrolyser nutrients each.
``The three bags of fertiliser and the agrolyser were subsidised by 50 per cent by the Federal Government, while the rice seeds are free," he added.
Talking about the benefits of the gesture, Enesi said: ``This is to further guarantee the food security of the country, as the need for food is next to nothing".
The Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Abubakar Zamau, and the District Head of Kware, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, commended the Federal Government for the gesture.
They also warned the beneficiaries against selling the commodities so the goals intended would be reached.
