The Federal Government has launched tax amnesty with the hopes to rake in US$1 billion in unpaid taxes.

The government said its voluntary asset and income declaration scheme (VAIDS) will broaden the country’s tax base and offer incentives for tax evaders.

The tax amnesty will run for the next nine months, effective from July 1, 2017
until March 31, 2018 , according to the ministry of finance.

That tax payers will turn up willingly? It depends on conditions of which two are:

1. taxpayers level of awareness and technical support.

2. How the govt is perceived to adequately mobilise its revenue collection machinery including penalties payment after the expiration of the amnesty period.

goodluck to the FGN.
