In preparation to celebrate the forth-coming 53rd Independence, the Federal Government has placed orders for 53 gold-plated customised iPhones from Gold and Co, a British luxury products company.

Each of the gold-plated devices costs between £3,000 and £50,000, a revelation, which will translate into about N662m on the luxury phones.

According to Punch Newspaper, A Bristol-born businessman based in Dubai, Mr. Amjad Ali, revealed to The Independent at the United Kingdom on Wednesday that the Nigerian government had joined his growing list of clients.

The 42-year-old entrepreneur, who grew up in Glasgow, specifically said that his company, Gold and Co, was working ahead to fulfil an order from the Nigerian government for 53 gold iPhones to mark the country’s 53rd year of independence on October 1.

He said, “We will engrave them with the coat of arms, a shield and two horses,” he said, while referring to the Nigerian orders.

N662m on gold plated iPhones? Sometimes i wonder if our government is even aware of the economic situation in this nation or prefer to feign ignorance.

Nigeria is a nation with too much money. I can liken it to a spoilt child with excess pocket cash n a guaranteed supply of the Biblical widow's oil that never ran dry.

Give the phone to the poor man; he does not need it - probably sell it.
Give it to the rich man; still does not need it - he can afford it.

Are there no other productive things to invest N662m in?
