The Federal Government on Thursday said that the terrorists who had willingly surrendered themselves would be "re-orientated and rehabilitated".

The Coordinator of National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, made this known when he briefed newsmen on the update of security situation in the North-East in Abuja.

Omeri said that the decision was to enable the repentant insurgents to be re-admitted into the society to contribute their quota to the development of the country.

He said government had put in place a number of strategies to ensure that the insurgents that were turning themselves in undergo a process of de-radicalisation and rehabilitation.

"There is a counter-insurgency document that was launched at the beginning of this situation and that document has a number of strategies. This is to ensure that those who have found themselves in such unfortunate situation are deradicalised.

"Various methods will be used, including religious leaders and the school system,’’ he said.

Omeri also said that those who refused to give up arms would face the law of the land.

He said the killing of the impostor leader of the Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, had left negative effect on his followers and threw spanner in the camp of the terrorist group.

"Most of the terrorists are fleeing under various guises’’. Omeri said.

Omeri said the killing had boosted the troops’ moral, adding that the armed forces had found the winning strategy against the terrorists and would not go back on it.
