Sports FIFA U17 WC: Golden Eaglets Ease Past Chile 5-1 To Reach Last 16 Stage

The FIFA U17 world cup defending champions, Nigeria, have continued their impressive run in the ongoing U17 world championship in Chile.

The Emmanuel Amunike led boys defeated the host country, Chile 5-1 in front of their home fans at the Estadio SausalitoVina Del Mar, Chile early Wednesday morning.

Samuel Chukwueze opened scoring for the defending champions in the first 30 seconds of the game after connecting a pass from a solo run from Victor Osimen and placed the ball at the right corner of the Chilean goal post.

The team's captain, Kelechi Nwakali doubled Nigeria lead in the first half from the spot after Chukwueze was fouled by Juan Jose Soriano by sprinting onto a long upfield clearance and tapping the ball past the sliding defender.

Nigeria resumed the second half with a goal in the 60th minute through Chukwueze, who got the first goal to bring his tally in the game to two, while Osimen, who benefited from a foul on Chukwueze and converted a spot kick to make it four for Nigeria.

Osimen completed Nigeria's five goals thumbing of the his country in the 86th minute while Chile got a consolation through Allende, who slammed past Udoh from Luciano Diaz's cross.

Meanwhile, coach Amuniken who will play Croatia on Friday at the same venue will miss the services of one of his player who was red-carded for fouling a Chiliean.

In the other group A game, USA and Croatia shared the spoils as both teams played a 2-2 draw, and as it stands, Nigeria are 6 points followed by Croatia with 2 points.

USA and Chile have both draw one game and lost one, so both have one point respectively.
