Yesterday, a the Plaza branch of First Bank of Nigeria in Uyo was shut down following a dispute between the bank and the landlord which led to the issuing of a traditional injunction which caused a juju scare.

Sources are claiming that the bank management is bent on buying the property from the landlord who has refused and is insisting on getting his annual rent for the property from the bank. The angry landlord allegedly planted plantain trees in front of the bank, a move which is considered a traditional summon.

Several bank customers were stranded yesterday. Meanwhile, officials at the First bank’s corporate affairs department in Lagos said they were not aware of the development.

It is however unknown if the bank will remain shut today.
