Some capital market operators on Monday attributed the business growth in the capital market in spite of the Christmas celebrations to activities of foreign investors.

They told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews in Lagos that dominance of foreign investors made the market to defy the expected lull during the holidays.

Mallam Garba Kurfi, the Managing Director, APT Securities and Funds Ltd. In Lagos, said that foreign investors, the major players in the market, were not carried away by year-end profit takings.

Kurfi said that foreign investors were strategically taking position ahead of 2014 due to appreciable growth recorded by the market over the years.

He said that the concentration of the major players on blue chips contributed to the market growth.

Mr Sehinde Adenagbe, the Managing Director, Standard Union Securities in Lagos, said that foreign investors were increasing their stakes in the market with expectations of higher returns in 2014.
