Former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, has officially dumped Nigeria's ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Labour Party.

According to Premium Times, addressing supporters during the commissioning of the state headquarters of the Labour Party, located at Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, Daniel said, ''This is the first time that I’m appearing in political environment since 2011. I want to tell you today that Labour Party is the right party. I want to publicly tell you today that we have given birth to a reliable baby today.

''I, Ogidi omo, is telling you today that Labour Party is the right path. Go and tell the world that Labour Party has come to stay. I think you can now see clearly which party I now belong to''.

Five members of the Ogun state assembly defected to the LP alongside Daniel, they are; John Obafemi (formerly of PPN), Remmy Hazzan (formerly of APC), Joseph Adegbesan (formerly of PPN), Obafemi Olowo-Oloja (formerly of APC) and Salmon Adeleke (formerly of PPN).
