Four men, Fatai Alabi, 24; Kazeem Fatai, 33; Tunde Aroka, 23 and Saheed Olaya, 19, were on Friday jailed by a Federal High Court in Ibadan for dealing in Indian hemp.

Justice Abimbola Obaseki-Adejumo convicted the four men who were arraigned on a one-count charge of unlawful dealing in Indian Hemp.

Morakin Ayokunle, the prosecuting counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, had earlier told the court that the convicts committed the crime on May 19 and June 24, at Apata and Bon Photo areas of Ibadan.

He said Alabi, the ring leader, was the operator of an Indian hemp joint, and that Fatai, Aroka and Olaya were assisting in the cutting and wrapping of the drugs as well as the cleaning of the joint.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Obaseki-Adejumo sentenced Alabi to two year in prison and a fine of N50,000, which he is to pay upon completion of the jail term.

The judge also sentenced Fatai, Aroka and Olaya to one year in prison each, and ordered them to pay a fine of N10,000 each upon completion of the term.

She directed the prison services to provide the convicts with trade and vocational training.
