The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Wednesday confirmed one person dead and 17 others injured in an accident on the Onitsha-Enugu road.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the accident occurred when an 18-seater bus and a truck collided.

The FRSC Unit Commander in Nteje, Mr Sunday Joseph, who confirmed the accident, said it happened at about 3 p.m. in Nkwelle-Ezunaka.

Joseph, who attributed the incident to speeding, noted that the people injured in the bus were rushed to Iyi-Enu Hospital, Ogidi near Onitsha.

“Only one lane is being used due to construction work; so one needs not to over-speed in a single lane that is being used to- and fro-,’’ he said.

The commander advised drivers to always be cautious of the environment in which they found themselves to help curtail road accidents.

An eyewitness told NAN on condition of anonymity that the bus was coming from Onitsha while the truck was coming from Awka when the accident occurred.
