Metro FRSC Releases Half-Year Report of Deaths, Injuries From Accidents in 2016

The Federal Road Safety Corps says it recorded 2,658 deaths in 4,809 crashes in the first half of 2016.

This was contained in the FRSC’s Road Traffic Crashes January to June report made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

The report says that the crashes, which involved 31,701 people, occurred in different parts of the country.

See Breakdown:

In January: 886 crashes were recorded involving 6,191 people, killing 529 people and injuring 2,999.

February: 738 crashes, involving 4,894 people, 496 deaths and 2,475 injured.

March: 883 crashes involving 5,620 people with 513 deaths recorded and 2,584 injuries

April: 739 road crashes, 4,805 people, 363 deaths and 2,227 injured.

May: 805 crashes occurred, 5,471 involved, 367 death and 2,621 injured

June: 758 crashes, 4,720 people involved, 385 deaths and 2,092 injured.


The report shows that the accident trend declined as the months proceeded because of the measures the commission put in place to curb crashes.

The report says that....

In January, 3,3756 traffic offenders were arrested while 37,44 offences were committed

February, 40,175 traffic offenders were arrested and 44,798 offences were committed.

March: 50,798 traffic offenders were arrested and 56,300 traffic offences were committed.

April: 38,714 traffic offenders were arrested and 42,764 offences committed.

May recorded 51,520 traffic offenders arrested and 57134 offences committed

June 51, 966 traffic offenders were arrested and 57,690 offences were committed.


It added: “This brought the total to 266,929 traffic offenders arrested and 296,126 traffic offences committed from January to June 2016.

Also, according to the report, 50,660,065 passengers traveled within the country and 4,992,027 numbers of vehicles traveled and 25,782 luxury buses traveled across the country within the period.
