On Monday, about 30 persons were killed, several others injured and at least 40 houses razed when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked villages in Bachit District, of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau state.
The attack which started at about 7am, lasted till noon and the four villages which make up shonong community were attacked. Women, Children and the aged were the main casualties as able bodied men had already left for their farms before the commencement of the attack. Properties including cattle were also carted away by the attackers.
Hon. Daniel Dem, Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly and member representing Riyom constituency has condemned the attack, blaming the Special Task Force (STF) for their inaction.
The Special Task Force is yet to issue a statement on the attack.
