G20 leaders are divided over how to respond to the Syrian conflict as they enter the final day of their Russia summit.

U.S. President Barack Obama is seeking international permission to engage Syria in military action for using chemical weapons on civilians last month which lead to more than 300 reported deaths and millions displaced from their homes to seek habitation in neighboring countries.

Differences occurred at a working dinner in Petersburg Thursday night, as Mr Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed started discussing Syria.

Sources say US, Turkey, Canada, France and the U.K. are the only nations at the G20 summit to commit to using force in Syria.

But correspondents in St Petersburg say opponents of US military intervention appear to far outnumber supporters within the G20.

The international community is only one stumbling block to military action in Syria as back home in the U.S. Mr. Obama needs congress’ support on the issue.

One-third of congressmen are at the moment undecided with majority of those who have decided opposed to military action.
