The Army has arrested two Boko Haram suspects one of whom is said to have participated in the killing of Mohammed Shuwa (rtd), a veteran civil war general, in front of his house in Gwange, Maiduguri on November 12, 2012.

The suspects are Ali Mohammed a.k.a Amir, 25 and Mohammed Sani Nafi’u also known as Malam Yaro, 35.

Addressing a press conference in Kano yesterday, Brigadier General Hamisu Hassan, commander of the 3-Brigade Nigerian Army, Kano, said the suspects were arrested in Hotoro quarters.
Brigadier General Hassan said Ali Mohammed was arrested on April 30 and Mohammed Sani Nafi’u was picked up on Sunday.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that Mohammed Sani Nafi’u (Malam Yaron) had aided the terrorists that killed late General Mammam Shuwa (rtd) on November 2, 2012,” he said.
He explained that Malam Yaro fled Maiduguri shortly after the killing and was assumed to have been killed since, until his recent arrest.

He added that Amir on the other hand, was the sect’s preacher in Baga and was reported to have led his followers to reinforce Boko Haram fighters during their battle with security agencies that led to the defeat of their leader Yusuf in 2009.
