The German police have created a Smartphone application designed to identify neo-Nazi or racist lyrics in rock songs.

Ministers will be meeting this week to decide on whether to launch the app.

Neo-Nazi music is becoming a problem in the country, and the German government says it helps in the inculcation of young people into extremist, pro-Nazi groups.

The German constitution explicitly forbids the glorification of the Nazi way of life.

The app, dubbed the “Nazi Shazam”, can detect the ‘audio fingerprints’ of neo-Nazi rock songs.

German police will be able to use to app to recognize neo-Nazi rallies, events and even neo-Nazi songs on internet radio.
