The Consul-General of Germany in Lagos, Mr Michael Derus, has advised Nigeria to apply other renewable and sustainable sources in its drive to improve its energy sector.

He spoke on Thursday at a seminar on “Bio-gas: an Untapped Source for Power Supply”, organised by the Consulate and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria.

“Whenever I hear that there are some considerations by Nigeria to go into nuclear solution, I have always advised against it.

“Germany has decided to step out of nuclear energy.

“ That means we want to give more space to sustainable and renewable energy solutions and, of course, do away with the nuclear solutions,’’ he said.

Derus said the seminar was a follow-up to two previous ones aimed at enabling Nigerians and Germans to share ideas on improving Nigeria’s power supply.

The diplomat enjoined Nigerians to tap into the benefits of using bio-gas solutions.

“We want Nigeria to know that bio-gas is really an energy solution to be considered,’’ he said.
