Nigeria's immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan, has been sued by the Okah brothers Messrs. Henry Emomotimi Okah, and Charles Tonbra Okah, for breaching their fundamental right to fair hearing with a statement he issued on August 8.
Jonathan's spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, was also sued.
In the statement, Jonathan denied he's the sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers and alleged that MEND wanted to assassinate him. The Okah brothers are incarcerated ex leaders of MEND.
Their solicitor, Timipa Jenkins Okponipere said he has been instructed to sue Jonathan and Eze.
“It is our client’s brief that the entire contents of the said statement breached their fundamental right to fair hearing as secured and guaranteed to them by the extant provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) as well as the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act 2004,” he said.
They are demanding N5bn for damages.
