Senior Vice President of Google, Amit Singhal revealed to Reuters on Thursday that Google launched its latest “Hummingbird” algorithm last month, and that it is currently running more than 90% of the online searches on Google worldwide.

Google is moving fast, keeping pace with the way the internet is evolving. As search strings get even more complicated for the conventional Boolean (keyword-based query system), something more efficient had to come up and handle the deteriorating prowess of Boolean logic.

Singhal wrote on his blog, referring to “Hummingbird”, “Remember what it was like to search in 1998? You'd sit down and boot up your bulky computer, dial up on your squawky modem, type in some keywords, and get 10 blue links to websites that had those words. The world has changed so much since then: billions of people have come online, the Web has grown exponentially, and now you can ask any question on the powerful little device in your pocket.”

This week marks the 15th week of the collaboration between Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the union of which brought about the world’s most powerful search engine. Page and Brin first began working together on the Google project in Susan Wojcicki’s garage (Susan is now a senior Google exec) on September 1998.

Let’s pause for a minute to wish Google a happy 15th, shall we?

*after a minute's pause*.......Happy Birthday Google.
Now where is the cake?
