Rochas Okorocha, the governor of Imo state, has come under intense criticism and censure recently for ordering traditional leaders in the state not to speak English language.

He gave the directive while handing over letters of recognition and staff of office to Nineteen (19) newly recognized traditional rulers in the State on Tuesday. Although he said many things at the function, the directive stood out.

"You are not permitted to speak English at functions. This will help keep our Culture and Igbo language alive”, Rochas said.

According to him all the royal fathers must speak Igbo language at functions and conduct activities in their palaces in Igbo language.

Although the reason he gave for the order seems logical, and many Nigerians welcome it as a good idea, others have condemned Okorocha for making such proclamation. They say Rochas shouldn't give such speeches since he speaks English at public functions himself.

Another user on Nairaland, Jamarifox, added: "Misplaced priority. Can your kids speak igbo? Thé fat one that graduated from US recently? Why didnt you patronise nigérian universités ? Nonsense. Shut up and keep looting your Imo state budget pls

Where do you fall in? Did Okorocha make the right call here?
