Following the trended photo of wheelbarrow branded in Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom's name, the governor has ordered that a query should be issued to the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Boniface Ortese, over the issue.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Ortom, Terver Akase, said the governor had directed the Secretary to the State Government to issue a query to Ortese to explain the inscription on the cart.

Ortom denied the pictures of wheelbarrows bearing his name which had gone viral on the social media, suggesting that he was empowering youths of the state with the wheelbarrows.

Ortom stated that his consent was not sought and he did not give approval for anyone to inscribe his name on the said wheelbarrows and directed the agency to immediately remove the inscription from all the wheelbarrows.

Pictures of wheelbarrows with the inscription, ‘Governor Ortom for you’, had gone viral on the social media but the governor has denied being involved in the wheelbarrow distribution.

The governor said, “I am aware of the wheelbarrows in possession of the State Emergency Management Agency, which were recently donated to the state by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons for the victims of crisis in parts of the state. So, he couldn’t have claimed credit for the gesture.”

Ortom said his administration had numerous laudable empowerment programmes for youths and that wheelbarrow donation was not one of them.
