Plots to impeach, governor Rotimi Amechi of Rivers State was yesterday uncovered by a a political group in the state, the Rivers’ People Forum.
According to OsunDefender, the president of the group, Charles Bekwele said that the plot is being orchestrated by some individuals within the presidency, in what it described as the ‘Alamieyeseigha Treatment’.
Charles Bekwele, who pointed out that the plot is in its implementation stage, said, “It has become pertinent to alert the general public on the sinister plot by some power hungry politicians in Abuja in alliance with certain interests within the Presidency to illegally and unconstitutionally remove the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi from office.”
According to him, he said that the plan has been codenamed: The Alamieyeseigha treatment for Amaechi, in reference to the way and manner former Bayelsa State Governor D. S. P. Alamieyeseigha, was booted out of office as governor of Bayelsa State then.
He said, “The plot also includes the plan to immediately arrest and prosecute Governor Amaechi on phantom charges, once they are able to illegally and unconstitutionally remove him from office. The plan is to thoroughly embarrass and disgrace Governor Amaechi.
“Intelligence information available to us indicates that the plot is thick in the making, execution of the plot may commence as soon as possible. The recent reported withdrawal of some of Governor Amaechi security details is said to be part of the plot.
“As the umbrella body of all Rivers people both at home and in the Diaspora, we want to state categorically that Rivers people will not accept and will vehemently resist any attempt, any move to illegally, unconstitutionally remove Governor Amaechi from office as the elected governor of Rivers State.
“We freely gave Governor Amaechi our votes and our mandate to serve as governor for four years and he must be allowed to serve out his term. For clarity and emphasis, we want to restate that any move to remove Governor Amaechi in any Kangaroo manner, not prescribed in the Nigerian constitution will be strongly and firmly resisted by the entire Rivers People with everything that we have.
“The plotters are hereby advised in their own good and for the good of the country to desist from such sinister plot. Rivers people elected Governor Amaechi and are indeed pleased with his performance and achievements.
“No one, we repeat, no one has the right to illegally boot him out of office because of petty political disagreements. Rivers people say no to impunity,” he warned.
