Guinea's President, Alpha Conde on arriving at Fez to attend the 9th International Agriculture Exhibition of Morocco on Wednesday has called for the quick return of Morocco to the African Union (AU).

"We hope that Morocco regains its place as soon as possible within the African Union, of which it is a founding member,’’ President Conde, who described as ``abnormal’’ Morocco's absence at the AU.

Conde also assured that his country would continue to support the autonomy proposal presented by Morocco for the settlement of the Western Sahara issue.

Morocco formally withdrew from the OAU in 1984 following the admission of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as a full member of the organisation.

SADR is claiming sovereignty over the whole Western Sahara territory, which Morocco claims as its own.
