Gunmen Abduct TASUED Deputy VC

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education Professor Joseph Olusanya, yesterday was kidnapped by four unknown gunmen along the Multiple Bridge area, in Ososa, Odogbolu Local Government area of Ogun State, the Punch reports.

The four gunmen who were in a vehicle, were said to have overtaken the official car Olusanya was travelling in with his driver and blocked it at a failed section of the Odogbolu – Ijebu Ode-Ore-Benin Expressway.

He was abducted along with his driver who was later dropped by the roadside at Odogbolu.

The Senate of the institution was forced to abruptly postpone the emergency meeting which was scheduled for Tuesday following the incident.

The Vice-Chancellor, TASUED, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade, who was said to have arrived the school premises around 10.40am, organised a prayer session with some members of staff, calling for God’s intervention.

She also urged the abductors to release the man to return home safely and in good health immediately.

Speaking on the development, the TASUED branch chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, Dr. Akinsola Akinsanya, expressed shock that the DVC could be abducted in such a manner.

“We in ASUU called for unconditional release of Prof. Olusanya immediately.”

The state police spokesman, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the abduction of Olusanya, but said crack detectives and the directorate of the State Security Service were jointly working to secure his release.

He said, “It is true that Prof. Olusanya was abducted. Policemen accosted his driver who was stranded around the Multiple Bridge in Ososa area.

“He told the policemen that his boss was abducted by four gunmen. We learnt the abductors had contacted the victim’s family and had demanded for a certain amount.”
