Contrary to the media proclamation by the Federal Government that it is winning the battle against terrorism and in spite of the news reports that the Government has dislodged members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect in Nigeria, fresh reports coming in confirm that 60 people were killed by people suspected to be members of the Islamic extremist group.

The attack occurred during the weekend in villages in Borno state. The attack also resulted in the injury of several other people, and occurred between the days of Saturday and Sunday in Mailari, Ngom and Maisarmari villages in Konduga and Mafa LGAs of Borno State.

The alarming increase in attacks in Borno and Yobe State may have been the sole agenda for the private meeting held yesterday between the President and some service chiefs and members of his cabinet.

It would appear that members of the sect attacked these villages in anger at the villagers for feeding the military information about them and their activities.

According to a source, not less than 52 persons were killed in the shootout between Saturday and Sunday in Konduga and Mafa Local Government Areas.
