Literacy level in Jigawa has increased from 40 to 51 per cent between 2007 and 2013 in the state says Dr Ya’u Haruna, Executive Secretary of the state Agency for Mass Education, that more than half of population of the state could now read and write.

According to him, the agency has established one centre for continued education programme for school drop-outs in each local government area while five centres were introduced for post literacy programmes.

He said 50 centres were created in the local government areas for basic literacy students.

The executive secretary said that if the efforts of the current administration were sustained by subsequent ones, illiteracy would be eradicated.
