According to reports, Fulani insurgents around 11pm on Saturday night murdered twenty people and razed 70 houses to the ground, displacing hundreds of residents living in Arikya and Ashangwa villages in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The incident took place barely six days after Fulani insurgents, numbering over 200, raided Gidan Gambo, 30 kilometers away from Lafia, the state capital, killing 10 people and burning over 50 houses while several of the residents were displaced, THE PUNCH says.

Abdullahi Buldi, one of the insurgents captured by the youth during the attack on Gidan Gambo, said that they were hired by some prominent Alago in the state to carryout serial attacks on Eggon communities in the state.

Attacks at Arikya and Ashangwa were said to avenge the capture of non-release of Buldi, who was captured by the Eggon youths.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, Ismaila Numan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, also confirmed the incident, stating that there was no casualty, but admitting that some houses were burnt.
