Scientist have made a major breakthrough in the fight against HIV. They have engineered antibodies that attach 99% of known HIV strains and have been successful in test with primates.

Developing a cure for HIV has been difficult because of the viruses ability to mutate, therefore rendering any set vaccine ineffective. In this case, the 'army of antibodies' appear to be able to cover all bases and successful stop the progress of the virus.

The work is a collaboration between the US National Institutes of Health and the pharmaceutical company Sanofi.

Test on humans will begin in 2018.
