Royal Dutch Shell had in April 2017, admitted paying money to Malabu Oil and Gas for rights to oil bloc, OML 245. Malabu is owned by former Petroleum Minister, Chief Dan Etete.

The Niger Delta Advancement Front had also said it would resist moves by the House of Representatives to summon former President Goodluck Jonathan over the controversial Malabu oil deal.

National President of the group, Dr. Ikiomasi Wakama was quoted saying that the members of the Niger Delta will not allow Jonathan appear before the lower chamber.

The group described the invitation to Jonathan as a witch-hunt.
