The House of Representatives committee on public petitions would soon commence a probe into an alleged fraud of N88 million involving the United Bank for Africa (UBA).

This followed a petition on the matter forwarded to the House by one Mr Eddy Onyenweuzo through Rep Obinna Chidoka (PDP, Anambra).

According to DailyTrust, Speaker Yakubu Dogara, earlier, directed the public petitions committee chaired by Rep Uzoma Nkem-Abonta (PDP, Abia) to investigate the matter with a view to ascertaining the truth of the matter.

In his petition obtained by Daily Trust, the petitioner said he was a major distributor of Unilever Nigeria Plc for over 30 years and that payments for all his transactions to the company was routed through UBA from 2001.

He said the transaction went on “smoothly until” 2006 when he discovered a foul play and that he was initially “ripped off of over N38 million.”

He said an analysis of his account through a chartered accountant later “discovered that the massive fraud that was committed” on his account was to the tune of N88 million.
