Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, has denied ever attending any meeting hosted by the now defunct new Peoples' Democratic Party (nPDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Media reports had previously linked Tambuwal to the meeting between the five PDP governors who defected and the leadership of the APC.

Imam Imam, Tambuwal's spokesperson, on Tuesday told the press that the speaker went to the Kano Governors lodge to see the Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko and not to attend the meeting.

“The speaker went to see his governor who sought to see him and he went there before the meeting commenced and it did not commence before he left the lodge,” Imam said.

He also countered recent rumors that claimed the house of representatives speaker was going to resign.

"There is no iota of truth at all on these insinuations; he has never considered resignation and it has never been discussed,” Imam said.
