The United States government on Friday night was shut down after senators couldn't agree on government spending for the next few months. As a result, several government organizations and operations were closed down.

This development has led to questions on if visa application processes in Nigeria would be affected.

Spokesman of the US Embassy in Abuja, Russell Brooks, on Saturday evening said scheduled visa appointments would hold.

"The State Department has informed the public on travel.state.gov that scheduled passport and visa services in the United States and at posts overseas will continue during the lapse on appropriations as the situation permits", he added.

“We are expected to still show up for work on Monday and figure it out from there,” a State Department officer had said.
